Def Leppard was great. Journey was disappointing
The excellent new stage and lighting at Hershey Park Stadium are a well-organized and reasonably priced event, including food & drink. Music was spot on, and the band was truly into the performance. Def Leppard was great. Rick Allen was amazing - friggin' amazing! Kudos to sudden fill-in Trixter guitarist Steve Brown who somehow managed to learn a 40+ year catalog of music in just one day. The young lead vocalist of Bear Ghost doesn't have the chops of Steve Perry, I get that. But he bounced, ran, jumped, and spun so manically I thought I was at a Punk concert. Not so hot, Bear Ghost. The Bear Ghost backdrop graphics were cheesy, so the breaks into live imaging were welcome. Overall, we felt Bear Ghost's performance was so lackluster we left 40 minutes into their show. The rest of the band seemed bored except for the self-indulgent lead guitar who took every opportunity available to inject long and distracting riffs into almost every song. As we walked back to our car, we realized we weren't the only ones leaving a full hour before the encore. Def Leppard rocked; Bear Ghost was disappointing. There were literally hundreds, HUNDREDS, of other concertgoers already ahead of us on the way out. And how does a drummer with a single arm manage to perform like that?
